However, depending on the area they both may have changed their name to the farm name if one existed, or the husband may have taken the wife's name if she was the only child of a farmer or craftsman and he was a journeyman taking over his father-in-law's craft or a younger, non-inheriting son moving to the farm of his wife and taking it over.
