“Resolved, That the Steward of the poor house be Instructed to admit into the poor house and take care of a pauper, Susannah Forney, an insane person, provided that her father Joseph Forney, will pay for such care and keeping at the rate of one dollar per week.”
“Susannah Forney –Age not known, was sent to the poor house on application of the Commissioners of Insanity, on the 17th of Dec., 1874.”[1]

“Susan Forney admitted Dec. 17, 1874, gave birth to a child March 21, 1875; the child was adopted by Mr. Lano, July 8, 1875; Susan’s not very smart, but stout, healthy and renders good assistance.”[2]
(1877) On the petition [to the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors] of Joseph Forney, asking that he be relieved from the support of Susannah Forney, and that his note of forty-one dollars given therefore be canceled, Mr. May moved that the petition be granted. Motion carried.

(1895) Susan Forney, the poor farm inmate, mention of whose disappearance from the home was made last week, was found last Friday at John Bickley’s, in Orange township. World was sent to Steward Remington that Susan was at Mr. Bickley’s, and he went after her. Susan was suspicious, and left before the Steward got there. She was finally discovered hiding in a willow grove on the farm, and when she saw Mr. Remmington approaching she started to run. Susan is quite fleet of foot, and was captured only after a hot chase of over half a mile.[3]
